Ultra Fast Batch Route Calculations

Guided Tour: Business Applications

As well as finding distances between a group of locations, Ultra MileCharter can find the distances from a group of locations to a new location. For example, it can calculate the distances, times, and costs for routes from a group of offices to a new customer.

Finding Multiple Distances to a Customer

This example has a number of company offices spread across Illinois. There is a new customer in Joliet,IL. Which is the closest office?

This map of office locations and the Joliet customer (red asterisk) was created from an Excel® spreadsheet that listed the office addresses. We use the same Excel® spreadsheet as input for MileCharter.

Ultra MileCharter is started. In the MileCharter panel, the Sales Offices worksheet has been selected for the start locations, and the Joliet Customer worksheet has been selected for the destination. Output is in the form of distances, and travel times. The USA Fastest road pack has been selected for the road network data. Compute is pressed to start the computation process.

Calculated distances from each office to the customer

These are the distance results in miles. Distances have been calculated from every office to the new customer. The Bolingbrook office is the closest.

MileCharter can also be set to only report the closest locations.

Calculated travel times from each office to the customer

These are the travel time results. Although the Bolingbrook office also has a shorter travel time, the Chicago Heights office is only 9 minutes further away.

It is also possible to calculate estimated route costs using rate tables.

Point-to-point routes calculated using Ultra One2OneMileage

Calculating Routes listed in a Database

All of these examples have calculated routes between two groups of locations using Ultra MileCharter. Ultra One2OneMileage can calculate a list of arbitrary point-to-point routes listed in a database.

This could be useful if you have routes which rarely have a pattern. For example sales agents who visit multiple customers and rarely follow the same schedule. Or you have service technicians who visit different customers every day or week. Similarly, Ultra One2OneMileage could be used to process employee travel expenses by directly working through the employee travel database.

All of Ultra MileCharter's route options include driving distances, travel time estimates, and estimated costs using rate tables, are available.

Next, we look at a business application with multiple depots and customers.
